APRIL 13, 2015
The world celebrates Valentine’s Day on February 14th each year, and Bali Safari & Marine Park decided to make it an extra special day by celebrating the 6th birthday of Valentine, their Sumatran Elephant. Valentine was born in the park on February 14, 2009, to mother Suciana and father David. She weighed approximately 700 kg and stood 1.5 meters tall. Valentine is one of the youngsters in the Elephant Show; she is known for being very active and is often seen shaking her head around. Valentine is an intelligent elephant, and one that is kind and obedient. Her keeper, Yudi, always keeps her company and enjoys feeding her watermelon and brown sugar, which are her favorites.
The birthday party took place at the Elephant Stage after the Elephant Show and was attended by 60 children of Yayasan Harapan Permata Bangsa from Singaraja. Before joining Valentine for her birthday, the children had a journey around the park. They learned about the animals from Indonesia, India, and Africa from the Safari Rangers at the Safari Journey. Then they gathered at the Kampung Gajah to engage in several fun and educational activities. They visited Safari Poo Paper and saw the process of making recycled paper from elephant dung. They also got a chance to send a love message to elephants around the world and write birthday wishes for Valentine on a prepared canvas.
To celebrate the month of love, Bali Safari & Marine Park also conducted a social media competition with the Safariers, which was posted on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The Safariers had to vote on the park’s loveliest couples to get a chance to win a day adventure at the park with a chosen loved-one. There was also a CUPID, or “Cutest Pet in Da House” competition, where the Safariers were asked to post their cutest images with their pets and post stories about them. The Safariers who wanted to learn more about their favorite pets could watch the videos posted on the park’s social media pages.
Let’s celebrate the month of love all year with our loved ones - including the animals around us - because we cannot live our lives to the fullest without these unique and lovely creatures bringing their beauty to the world around us.
